From Caretaker’s Cottage to Coveted Home - 11 North Street
Located in the heart of Greenport's historic district, 11 North Street stands surrounded by some of the village's most iconic homes. Originally built as a caretaker's cottage for the neighboring Victorian home, the property was subdivided mid-century, leaving a tiny house on an even smaller lot, hastily constructed and in dire need of a complete overhaul.
This project came with significant hurdles, requiring approvals from the zoning board, planning board, and historical preservation committee. To overcome these challenges, we designed a home that balanced modern appeal with respect for the historic charm of the neighborhood.
The results speak for themselves. Before construction was even complete, the home was purchased by enthusiastic new owners, who took possession in November 2024. Beyond the sale, the project received accolades from the community, including some who initially opposed it. This transformation not only revitalized 11 North Street but also reinforced the harmony between Greenport’s rich past and its promising future.
